In a move that has caught the aviation ground support industry by surprise, Powervamp has appointed James Ackland to the position of Sales Director to take charge of the company’s expanding world aviation business and develop its fast growing sales in the specialised emergency lighting central battery systems sold under its Effekta brand name.

James, who joins Powervamp on the 7th of April, was previously with LPA Niphan. This new appointment strengthens the company’s dynamic management team and draws on James’s 10 years of sales experience with LPA Niphan in the international GSE market.

With Powervamp recognised as the UK’s fastest growing manufacturers of 400 Hz and 28 volt DC GSE equipment, the company recently launched Sidewinder,  a new design of  ramp cable carrier system complementing its 400 Hz frequency converters.  Sidewinder, after extensive trials, has been ordered in quantity by London Heathrow Airport.

“With his ground support equipment market knowledge, [James] is uniquely qualified to head both our sales teams”

Powervamp founder, and Jt. MD, Richard Roller commented: “One of the fastest growing sectors of our business is our Effekta standby lighting division, providing emergency lighting in major public areas such as airport concourses and malls. James has had previous experience in this field and, with his ground support equipment market knowledge, is uniquely qualified to head both our sales teams as we maintain the growth projections in our 5 year plan”.

Powervamp, incorporated in January 1994, has built an international reputation for quality and engineering support.  Its engineering team can offer the creative flexibility that allows it to tailor solutions to customers requirements, typified by its recent contract to replace all the diesel ground power units at London City Airport with its unique design of mobile electric powered solid state 90Kva frequency converters.

“Apart from the obvious technical and commercial experience that James brings to the company as an honors engineering graduate, it was essential that the board felt he would comfortably integrate with them.  After initial agency interviews, our own lengthy selection process placed him well above other applicants and the board were unanimous in recommending his appointment, which is a testimony to the all round skills he brings to Powervamp”, concluded Roller.
