20th-Anniversary-Wreath

This month Powervamp celebrates its 20th birthday. It’s been an amazing journey since the company first started back in 1993, when it was formed by Managing Director Richard Roller.

It all started as a small range of portable packs for starting cars, buses and trucks, but then soon moved on to more pioneering ventures, such as the creation of the first stainless steel battery pack for starting helicopter turbines. This in turn led to the development of a range of portable power solutions for aircraft and vehicle starting. Powervamp was born.

Powervamp is now the only major manufacturer of aviation frequency converters in Britain today, and supply aircraft operators in more than 60 countries around the world with fixed and portable Ground Power Units (GPUs) and specialised systems.

Powervamp has also led the way in the conversion to greener, more eco-friendly electrical ground power systems for airports, helping to replace diesel GPUs that produce more carbon, nitrogen and particulate emissions, and are noisier to operate.

It’s the demand for Powervamp’s products that’s been the catalyst behind the company’s pioneering research to develop the best electrical ground power units on the market today – pioneering research that this country can be proud of over the last 20 years.

So what’s next? Well, the business continues to grow, as does the ground-breaking research and development. The Greener Power programme was recently launched – an initiative that sees the company constantly monitor and evaluate its practices and products, ensuring services are provided in the most environmentally efficient and sustainable way possible. This includes the use of pure lead-acid batteries – the most highly recycled consumer product on the planet – in all Powervamp products.

Powervamp are also continuing to develop game-changing products such as the amazingly successful Coolspool GPU range. The Coolspool offers a higher than average 28 volts (as opposed to the more common 24 volts) for more powerful and faster engine starting, and is currently in use in the UK, Africa, Iceland, USA, South America, Japan and New Zealand.

Rigorous testing of this and of all the product ranges, including hands-on trials, field testing and development on site and in action, has been a major contributing factor to the success of Powervamp over the last 20 years.

The company hopes to replicate this success into the future by continuing to serve a loyal and increasing customer base – including the British MOD, airlines and maintenance operators, international air shows, and more – in the fashion they have come to expect.

Powervamp Racing – the company’s racing division – is also hoping to expand on its success: being recognised worldwide over the past 10 years as the one-stop shop for racing batteries and related accessories.

Here’s to the next 20 years, and to all of the customers that have helped make Powervamp the UK’s leading supplier of aviation ground power equipment.
