The world-famous Farnborough International Airshow (FIA) has been held at the airfield in Farnborough, Hampshire since 1948 and over the decades has showcased many pioneering triumphs in aerospace.
Today the 7-day international Airshow continues to be a launch platform for aviation innovation and new aircraft and welcomes over 100,000 people through its gates every two years.
Alternating with the International Paris Airshow, The Farnborough International Airshow also hosts some 600 exhibitors and retailers as well as 150 aircraft displayed and daily flying displays.
Once again Powervamp was awarded the contract to provide ground power to aircraft in the static air park for the duration of the airshow and to also provide a large quantity of its airshow rental equipment.
This equipment will include 28 x PV90-3 400Hz frequency converters, 13 x PS300 power supplies, 8 x 3-tonne air-conditioners, 6 x PV45 frequency converters, 3 x Nato 200 dual voltage DC jump-starters and a huge amount of 3-phase cable, extension leads and junction boxes.
Prestigious airframe manufacturers such as Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier, Embraer, Cessna and Pilatus were just some of the companies supported by Powervamp during the 7 day exhibition including 2 public days.
With a background of more than 24 years in the manufacture and supply of ground power equipment for the aviation industry worldwide, Powervamp has steadily developed its airshow and ground support rental business.
Seldom are manufacturers regular users of the products they produce, however Powervamp is the exception by offering its equipment to major international airshows including Paris, Singapore, India as well as Farnborough.
Powervamps experienced engineers are used to operating under the extreme conditions associated with the setting up of an airshow, and are regularly required to undertake complex power calculations.
The team understand that set-up remains a ‘fluid’ situation, with many customers requesting last minute ground power equipment or air-conditioning..
The Powervamp Airshow Team have to cater for these unexpected requests and keep a cool head, even in this unusually hot weather.
However the factory trained team of engineers are used to working under these highly pressurised conditions and put in long hours to ensure all airframe manufacturers receive a 1st class service.
However, with FIA 2018 nothing more than a memory, thoughts turn to the planning required for the next big one…International Paris Airshow 2019.
