Safomar Aviation was registered in 1987 in Gauteng, South Africa and entered the aviation market by distributing aircraft paint and brokering spare parts into the local market.

The company is the aviation arm of a much larger company, Safomar Holdings, which is made up of 9 companies offering a wide range of products and services including Eastman engine turbine oils and fluids, Goodyear aircraft tyres, Phillips Piston oils, Helitune dynamic balancing equipment, Dynanav navigation equipment, PPG coatings, sealants and aircraft windows. The company also owns and operates multiple rotary and fixed wing aircraft.

Today the Safomar Group now employs 177 personnel across the entire company, of which 45 staff are employed full time by Safomar Aviation directly. The internal sales team is made up of 6 staff with a further 10 staff assisting within the dedicated customer support team. The remainder of the team is made up of management, stores personnel and drivers.
The company also owns a number of rotary and fixed wing aircraft, which are serviced using the high quality components and lubricants stocked for re-sell, such as Goodyear Tyres, Phillips Piston oils and Helitune dynamic balancing equipment.

Although not a manufacturer, Safomar Aviation has built a strong business model based upon management and reselling. However, the company is still keen to retain a ‘hands-on’ approach to servicing its customers requirements and carries out fixed and rotor wing maintenance in their two maintenance hangers based at Grand Central Airport, Johannesburg.

Safomar Aviation and Powervamp started working together in late 2017 having signed a distribution agreement covering a number of the African countries and the Islands.
The company initially concentrated on promoting the smaller DC ground power units due to the regular enquiries from regional operators, but has more recently received interest for the 400Hz airport equipment.
