Powervamp in Paris

In spite of heavy showers and continuous periods of rain, Powervamp and its team of technicians – who for the fourth consecutive show were awarded the contract for all ground power at Le Bourget, home of the world’s most famous Air show – worked late into the evenings to complete the huge task of powering the many various aircraft in time for the all important first day of the show.

The task – the planning of which started many months earlier – involved the despatch  from Powervamp’s UK factory of  two 38 tonne trucks, one 7.5 tonne truck and one van fully loaded with Frequency converters, cabling and distribution boxes, plus many accessories followed up by two support vehicles and a team of seven engineers Additional cooling equipment was brought in from Belgium.

With a full show and the first flight to Europe of Boeing’s latest stretched 747-8, to be followed later by the 787 Dreamliner and a second 747-8 freighter, Powervamp’s team were on standby to hook up power to the 747-8  the moment it arrived at Paris from Seattle. One of the star attractions of the show, the visit had been slotted in between a heavy programme of flight testing

With Powervamp also supplying power to the Boeing 777 of Qatar  Airways and Airbus A380 plus numerous other exhibitors including  Alenia, ATR, Bell, Bombardier, Cessna, Dassault, Hawker Beechcraft, Pilatus, Sukhoi, the team of engineers were kept busy during the fist two show days as aircraft arrived and departed the static area.

In addition to the “big names”, many specialist exhibitors with aircraft the size of the Airbus A320 down to single engine piston aircraft also required the services of Powervamp .

Foremost a manufacturer of Ground Power Equipment, Powervamp has quietly and steadily built a huge inventory of Ground Power Units which it owns. The variety of AC and DC converters, most of which are its own products, are supported by its own factory engineers. All power supplies and its fleet of 3 phase heavy air conditioning equipment is available for short or long term rental.

Unlike some other organisations offering rental equipment, Powervamp’s air show rental division is supported by talented  and qualified electronics engineers from within the business, able to provide advice and support on complex issues as required. The Company’s CAD service and growing reputation and business expertise have been responsible for further major investment in additional equipment.

As the Air show circuit continues to develop and Powervamp’s reputation as a quietly efficient provider of power is recognised world wide, the company continues to develop this sector of its business.
