Fuerza Aérea del Perú The Peruvian Air Force, or Fuerza Aérea del Perú (FAP) as they are known locally, is the branch of the Peruvian Armed Forces tasked with defending the nation and its interests through the use of air power. Additional missions include assistance in safeguarding internal security, conducting disaster relief operations and participating in international peacekeeping operations.

“…the Grupo Aéreo Número 3 were dissatisfied with the various GPUs currently in service…”

The FAP is made up of four divisions, however it was the Grupo Aéreo Número 3, or Air Group No3, who first expressed an interest regarding the Powervamp range of ground power units.

The Grupo Aéreo Número 3 were dissatisfied with the various GPUs currently in service around Peru and were seeking a more reliable alternative, which was when they contacted Powervamp Peruvian distributor, Unlimited Systems.

“…the engineers were particularly impressed with the Coolspool 29 twin model…”

Unlimited Systems is located on the west coast of Peru and already supplies high tech security products such as X-ray machines, drones and scanners to the FAP. Unlimited systems requested a visit by Powervamp to demonstrate to the FAP the range of portable GPU for aircrafts and power supplies. The FAP currently operate a fleet of Bell 212 / Bell 412 as well as MI 17 / MI 24 helicopters and use the GPUs for up to 4 turbine starts as well as pre-flight checks and software upgrades.

The Coolspool 29 Twin was trialled by the FAP on a number of different helicopters

The engineers were particularly impressed with the Coolspool 29 twin model, which offered a perfect partnership of power and portability making it ideal for using at the base or on exercise. The quality of the equipment, and customer support was also a deciding factor when the range of Powervamp ground power units were showcased by Richard Roller, (Chairman) and Cesar Puente, (Project Engineer), to the FAP in late 2017.

“…FAP have expressed an interest in the larger Coolspool 130 and Coolspool 260 battery carts for extended avionics software programming…”

The introduction to the Powervamp GPU’s was very well received and following on from the successful demonstration, FAP immediately purchased 5 x Coolspool 29 Twin units for use within two locations at their Air Force base in Lima – ‘Petroperu de Bagua’ and ‘Base contra subversiva de Pichari in Vraem’.

Portability, power and reliability were essential GPU attributes required by the FAP

Since delivery of the ground power units, FAP have expressed an interest in the larger Coolspool 130 and Coolspool 260 battery carts for extended avionics software programming and increased turbine starting on larger helicopters. Unlimited Systems have also been in contact with other divisions of the FAP where there is a keen interest in the PV90-3 400Hz equipment.

Powervamp is working very closely with their new distributer to ensure the Fuerza Aérea del Perú have access to the complete range of ground power equipment and power supplies, as well as full technical support.
